Iga Swiatek masterfully navigates key moments to oust Zheng Qinwen in Dubai
Iga Swiatek defeated Qinwen Zheng 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
She secured her 35th victory against a top-10 player and extended her unbeaten record against Zheng to 6-0.
Entering the match, Swiatek focused on using angled shots to disrupt Zheng's rhythm. She quickly secured a 3-0 lead by breaking Zheng's serve.
Although Zheng had a low first-service percentage (48%), she managed to win 77% of those serves. In contrast, Swiatek had a higher first-service percentage (64%) and won 72% of her serves.
Swiatek maintained her early advantage to take the first set 6-3. In the second set, both players held onto their serves, but Swiatek displayed better efficiency during crucial points.
For instance, she saved a break point in the fourth game and capitalized on her second break point in the following service game of Zheng.
With a 4-2 lead, Swiatek capitalized on Zheng's inconsistency, breaking her serve again to go up 5-2. Although Zheng had another break opportunity, she failed to convert it.
Swiatek closed out the match with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory. This win marked Swiatek's 13th consecutive victory, and she has now won 25 of her last 26 matches.
The four-time Grand Slam champion advanced to the semifinals and will face the winner of the match between Coco Gauff and Anna Kalinskaya.
