Barcelona keeping an eye on soon-to-be-free Atletico Madrid defender

FC Barcelona, due to their current financial constraints, have made it a pattern to focus on the free transfer market in recent transfer windows, and this approach is expected to continue into the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is closely monitoring the situation of Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso, whose contract with the Spanish capital club is set to expire this summer.

Barcelona is prepared to bid farewell to Marcos Alonso at the conclusion of the season, as the Spaniard's contract is also expiring. Interestingly, Alonso could potentially join Atletico Madrid as a free agent.

In turn, Atletico Madrid could witness Hermoso move to Barcelona as a potential replacement for Alonso.

As previously mentioned, the 28-year-old Hermoso's contract with Diego Simeone's side will come to an end on June 30, and he has thus far delayed signing a new deal.

Hermoso, a versatile defender who can play as a left-back or center-back, has significant experience with over 170 appearances in La Liga.

This is an aspect that appeals to Barcelona, as they would be strengthening their defense with a proven player without incurring any transfer fees.

Consequently, Barcelona is closely monitoring Hermoso's situation at Atletico Madrid and may consider pursuing the Spanish international if he allows his contract to expire at the Civitas Metropolitano.
