Wizards wing Corey Kispert will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season after undergoing surgery in New York City on Tuesday to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, the team announced.
The injury occurred in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Denver, but the Wizards expect Kispert to make a full recovery before the start of next season.
Kispert appeared in 61 games off the bench this season, averaging 11.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 26.3 minutes per game while shooting 45.1% from the field, 36.4% from three, and 85.2% from the free-throw line.
A reliable outside shooter, the former Gonzaga standout has hit 38.2% of his 5.2 three-point attempts per game over his four-year NBA career.
The 25-year-old signed a four-year, $54 million rookie scale extension last offseason, set to take effect in 2025/26.
He’s now the second player from the 2024 rookie extension class to suffer a season-ending injury in the past 24 hours—Pelicans wing Trey Murphy was ruled out Monday with a shoulder injury.
With Kispert and Bilal Coulibaly (hamstring) sidelined, Washington will need to rely on its depth at the wing.
AJ Johnson, Jaylen Martin, and Colby Jones are among the players expected to see increased minutes.
All three logged career highs in playing time on Monday in Portland: Johnson played 35 minutes, Martin 28, and Jones 25.
