Brendan Rodgers has shared an update on Kasper Schmeichel’s shoulder injury after the Danish goalkeeper underwent a scan following the setback during the international break.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Rodgers confirmed that Schmeichel will be sidelined for a period, though the exact duration remains unclear.

While the initial estimate suggests a recovery time of five to six weeks, the experienced keeper is hopeful he could return sooner.

He said: “We’ve had some news, and we’ll see over the course of the next five to six weeks, is what was mentioned.

“But this is just something that day by day we have a look at it. The timeline that was given to us was around about that, but Kasper tends to think it might not be as long as that.

“Certainly in the immediate future, he won’t be available.”

With Schmeichel sidelined for the foreseeable future, Celtic will turn to Viljami Sinisalo, who recently made his league debut against Hearts on Saturday.

The 23-year-old delivered a strong performance, making several key saves in the first half to secure a clean sheet. Now, he faces a significant opportunity he has likely been anticipating all season.

When asked if the 38-year-old Schmeichel will feature again this season, Rodgers remained hopeful but cautious.

“Yes, I believe so. But, like I say, we’ll just have to keep an eye on it.”

Celtic fans will be closely monitoring Schmeichel’s recovery, hoping he can return within the next six weeks. In the meantime, the team faces crucial matches without him, with Sinisalo potentially playing a vital role in securing the league title and reaching the Scottish Cup final.

Rodgers and the medical staff will continue evaluating Schmeichel’s progress, but the priority remains ensuring he fully recovers before making his comeback.

The club will be eager to see if the Danish goalkeeper can defy the initial prognosis and return in time for the final stretch of the season.
