Tottenham consider re-signing Premier League bound star with fast expiring contract

Tottenham are reportedly exploring a move for a highly decorated midfielder as they look to strengthen their squad before the January transfer window slams shut. With less than a week remaining, Spurs are running out of time to bring in reinforcements.

Thomas Frank’s side booked their place in the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday night with a win over Eintracht Frankfurt, avoiding the need for a playoff. However, that European success has not translated into Premier League form, where Tottenham continue to struggle.

Frank is under growing pressure as Spurs sit in the bottom half of the table, a situation made worse by a mounting injury crisis. Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies, Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison are all sidelined for months, while Pedro Porro is expected to miss several weeks.

Midfield depth has been bolstered with the arrival of Conor Gallagher, but Tottenham’s attacking options look stretched. Brennan Johnson’s departure has left the frontline short, and Dejan Kulusevski is still working his way back from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Spurs have been heavily linked with Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, but further reinforcements are needed at the sharp end of the pitch. While concrete updates have been limited, fresh reports suggest Tottenham are also considering another midfield addition.

Despite already securing Gallagher, Tottenham are now said to be interested in Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka. The 30-year-old has enjoyed a hugely successful spell in Germany, winning six Bundesliga titles, the Champions League and numerous domestic honours.

Goretzka is out of contract this summer, meaning he could be available at a reduced fee this month. Clubs outside Germany are also free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement ahead of a potential summer move.

According to Matteo Moretto, Tottenham are keen to challenge Atletico Madrid for the midfielder’s signature, with Bayern Munich expected to make a decision on his future in the coming hours. The German champions must decide whether to offer him a new deal or cash in now, with reports suggesting a fee in the region of £17–18 million could be enough to secure a January transfer.

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed this week that the club would review Goretzka’s situation during the window. “From tomorrow, I can look at what information is available,” Kompany said. “It’s about what’s best for Leon, Bayern, and the team.”

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has also previously praised Goretzka’s contribution, describing him as an important player who consistently delivers in both training and matches.
