The Golden State Warriors secured a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals on Tuesday, but the victory came at a cost.
Steph Curry sustained a left hamstring strain during the matchup and logged just over 12 minutes in the Warriors’ 99-88 triumph.
After the game, head coach Steve Kerr addressed the media and was candid about Curry’s availability for Game 2.
“We don’t know yet,” Kerr said. “But with a hamstring, it’s hard to imagine that he would play Thursday.”
Curry is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday and is currently listed as day-to-day.
Although there’s a possibility he’ll be cleared by the medical staff, it seems more likely he’ll need to sit out for at least some time.
The main question now is how long he’ll be sidelined.
This development is troubling for the Warriors, who were already fatigued following their grueling seven-game series against the Houston Rockets.
They’ll need to make significant adjustments to their lineup to maintain the level of offense required to challenge the Timberwolves.
Curry appeared to injure himself after a scoring play in the second quarter, immediately clutching his left leg and signaling to the bench.
He stayed on the court briefly before heading to the locker room and did not return for the rest of the game.
Despite his absence, the Warriors managed to pull off a crucial win in Game 1.
That victory could prove even more valuable if Curry is forced to miss time, as facing the Timberwolves is difficult enough with him on the court—doing it without him will be even tougher.
