Stefon Diggs finds new NFL home in blockbuster trade

One of the esteemed former University of Maryland players in the NFL has secured a new team ahead of the upcoming 2024 season.

According to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills are trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Bills are sending Diggs, along with a sixth-round pick in the upcoming draft and a 2025 fifth-round pick, to Houston for a 2025 second-round pick.

In the previous season, Diggs showcased his prowess by making 107 receptions for 1,183 yards and scoring eight touchdowns in 17 games.

This performance earned him his fourth Pro Bowl selection. Diggs had formed a dynamic partnership with Bills' quarterback Josh Allen, which was both popular and effective.

Now, he will be catching passes from Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, who was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in the previous season and is seen as a rising star.

At 31 years old, Diggs enters his tenth season in the NFL. He made history at Maryland as the highest-ranked recruit ever when he committed to the university in 2012.

Despite playing with multiple quarterbacks during his time at Maryland, he managed to amass 150 catches, 2,227 yards, and 14 touchdowns in 28 games.

Diggs was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He spent five seasons with the Vikings, gaining national attention, particularly for his memorable 61-yard touchdown known as the Minneapolis Miracle.

In March 2020, Diggs was traded to the Bills, where he immediately made an impact, leading the league in both receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) in his debut season in Buffalo.

He earned First-team All-Pro honors that year and was also named Second-team All-Pro in 2022.

During his time in Buffalo, Diggs was selected to the Pro Bowl every season, helping the Bills clinch AFC East titles. However, despite their regular-season success, the Bills made only one appearance in the AFC title game (in the 2020 season) and were eliminated in the divisional round in the past three seasons.

Diggs will now be part of a promising receiving corps in Houston, alongside 25-year-old Nico Collins and second-year wideout Tank Dell.

Former Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon is also a recent addition to the Texans. Interestingly, the Texans will face Diggs' former team, the Bills, during the upcoming season.
