Sri Lanka Cricketer Arrested On Suspicion Of Assault

Sri Lankan cricketer Ashen Bandara was arrested on Saturday following an alleged assault on his neighbor over a parking dispute.

Reports indicate that Bandara entered his neighbor’s home after an argument about a parked vehicle obstructing the road.

The 26-year-old, who has represented Sri Lanka in six ODIs and six T20Is since his international debut in 2021, was taken into custody in Kolamunna, Piliyandala.

Bandara was later granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on March 12.

“On Saturday evening one of the neighbours had complained of Bandara causing trouble, and that he had trespassed into someone’s house,” the Sri Lanka police was quoted as saying by ESPNcrcinfo. “The verbal confrontation had then escalated into a physical one. He was arrested on suspicion of assault on Saturday night and bailed out on the same day.”

Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva stated that if Ashen Bandara’s alleged actions have harmed the organization’s reputation, appropriate action will be taken.

“We first need to look at the contract and also look at the incident. If he is thought to have brought SLC into disrepute, then there is further action that we can take. So we will discuss the matter internally and if it warrants an inquiry we will conduct one,” De Silva said.

Two new members have joined the eight-member Women’s Premier League (WPL) committee. Rohan Gauns Dessai, the newly elected joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been inducted into the committee. Additionally, Dilsher Khanna has been nominated to fill the vacancy left by Prabhtej Bhatia, who was elected as BCCI Treasurer.

WPL 2025 has now passed the halfway stage, with UPW and RCB already eliminated from the tournament.

Updated WPL Committee

  1. Mr. Roger Binny – Chairperson
  2. Mr. Devajit Saikia – Convenor
  3. Mr. Arun Singh Dhumal – IPL Chairperson
  4. Mr. Rajeev Shukla – BCCI Vice-President
  5. Mr. Prabhtej Bhatia – BCCI Honorary Treasurer
  6. Mr. Rohan Gauns Dessai – BCCI Honorary Joint Secretary
  7. Mrs. Madhumati Lele
  8. Mr. Dilsher Khanna

Who is Rohan Desai?

Rohan Gauns Dessai, who has served as GCA secretary since 2022, has been actively involved in cricket administration.

He also managed the Indian men’s team during their four-match T20I series in South Africa last year, where India secured a 3-1 victory.

Following his appointment as BCCI joint secretary, the GCA congratulated Dessai, highlighting that his election reflects Goa’s growing influence in Indian cricket.

As the sole candidate for the position, his election was a formality. The event was attended by key BCCI officials, including president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajiv Shukla.
