James Maddison is not expected to return from injury this season.

The Tottenham midfielder injured his knee in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt.

Ange Postecoglou mentioned after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at West Ham that Maddison’s situation was “not looking promising.”

Scans are still being conducted to determine the full extent of the damage, but the 28-year-old England international is unlikely to play again in the remaining three weeks of the season.

This marks another injury setback for Postecoglou in what has already been a difficult season for the team.

For Maddison, it’s a personal blow as Tottenham is on the verge of reaching the Europa League final. They currently hold a 3-1 lead over Bodo/Glimt with the second leg in Norway on Thursday, and the final in Bilbao is just over two weeks away.

Midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who suffered an ankle injury just before the first leg, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Captain Son Heung-min has missed the last four matches due to a foot injury. He has been training on his own and remains a doubt for the trip to Norway.

Dominic Solanke, who was also injured during the Bodo/Glimt match, missed the draw at West Ham but is confident he will be fit for Thursday’s game.
