Rennae Stubbs, who once coached Serena Williams, shared a candid take on Novak Djokovic’s prospects at the French Open after his semifinal defeat. On June 6, 2025, Djokovic’s pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title at Roland Garros came to a halt.

The Serbian star showcased remarkable skill in Paris, overcoming tough opponents to reach the semifinals. Yet, he was outplayed by Jannik Sinner, who secured a commanding 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3) win.

Soon after the match, Stubbs, Williams’ former coach, took to X to share a striking prediction about Djokovic’s future at the tournament.

She praised Sinner’s outstanding performance while boldly stating that this French Open would likely be Djokovic’s final appearance at the event.

“Awesome match. Awesome. I think that’s the last we might see of Nole in Paris. That wasn’t a see you next year walk off court,” Stubbs commented.

In addition to her take on Novak Djokovic, Rennae Stubbs, Serena Williams’ former coach, called out Carlos Alcaraz for his “undisciplined” approach during his semifinal match against Lorenzo Musetti at the French Open.

While pointing out Alcaraz’s erratic play, Stubbs also commended Musetti’s impressive performance, noting the Italian’s skill and composure in the same breath.

“That was the undisciplined Alcaraz in that last game. Panicking and going for way too much on his FH. 2 very bad UF errors at 0-15 and 15-40. Lorenzo playing solid as a rock!”

In a recent episode of her podcast, Rennae Stubbs shared her thoughts on Novak Djokovic’s quest for a 25th Grand Slam title. She drew a parallel between the Serbian star and Serena Williams, who also aimed for 25 Grand Slams before retiring. Stubbs also connected Djokovic’s journey to Pete Sampras, who abruptly retired after clinching the 2002 US Open.

“Serena really wanted 25 (Major titles), but she didn’t get it and does it define her? No. Of course not. She’s still the greatest female player of all time and arguably the greatest player of all time. Novak now is sitting in that same spot, and I think the only thing that drives him is maybe winning one more and I could see him literally doing a Pete Sampras and dropping the mic and being like, ‘I’m done,'” Stubbs said.

“But, having said that, it’s not that easy to win a Grand Slam anymore when you’re not even winning f**king matches at regular tournaments in best of three sets against these guys. Come on.”

Rennae Stubbs, Serena Williams’ former coach, had a stellar career, securing 60 WTA titles, which include four Grand Slam women’s doubles titles and two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles.
