The 2025 NBA Draft tips off Wednesday night, and the trade market is already heating up with several major moves taking place around the league.
Now, speculation is growing about a potential deal between the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors.
Prior to Kevin Durant’s trade to the Houston Rockets, the Heat had reportedly set their sights on acquiring him from the Phoenix Suns.
With that opportunity gone, Miami’s front office—led by Pat Riley—is exploring alternative options.
One name emerging as a possible target is Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga.
With the draft just hours away, the Heat and Warriors have been mentioned as potential trade partners.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Miami has shown genuine interest in pursuing a deal for Kuminga—a situation worth monitoring as the first round approaches.
“The Kevin Durant trade might’ve helped. The Miami Heat missed out on Durant and have legitimate Kuminga interest, per league sources, among others expected to explore the idea as the market materializes,” Slater wrote. “The Brooklyn Nets loom as a possible offer sheet team, but did use a chunk of their cap space in a Tuesday night trade.”
Recently, Jonathan Kuminga opened up about his future, expressing a desire to play for a team that truly values and believes in him.
“Wherever I go, wherever I’ll be, off the rip, I just want them to be like, ‘Oh, yeah, he deserved what he got. He deserved to be here. He worked hard for it.’ Wherever it is, that’s what I want it to feel like,” Kuminga said, as shared by Slater. “I want to be great. I feel like I’m capable of being that, capable of doing some special things and I won’t just let it go like that. The only way to get there is just to lock in every single day.”
Jonathan Kuminga is coming off a promising season with the Golden State Warriors, though it wasn’t without its challenges.
While he showed flashes of his potential, he experienced inconsistency in his role—spending significant time on the bench late in the season and even during parts of the playoffs.
He appeared in 47 regular season games, starting just 10 of them, and averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. He shot 45.4% from the field and 30.5% from beyond the arc.
In the playoffs, Kuminga stepped up following Stephen Curry’s injury against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He averaged 20.8 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in that series, shooting an impressive 54.3% from the field and 42.1% from three-point range.
At just 22 years old, Kuminga’s potential remains sky-high. If he were to land with the Miami Heat, he could develop into a foundational player and future star for the franchise.
While nothing is confirmed, the growing buzz around a potential Heat-Warriors trade involving Kuminga suggests it’s a situation worth keeping an eye on.
