Just hours before New Orleans is set to host Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, a surprising report emerged about the next head coach of the Saints.

Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, is reportedly set to take the job, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, with the announcement coming just before 11 p.m. ET on Saturday.

This news, so close to the Super Bowl, has left Eagles fans furious, though it seems unlikely that Moore’s performance in the game could change the Saints’ mind unless something goes terribly wrong.

“Dirty business dropping this night before the Super Bowl,” a user replied to Schefter on X.

“Couldn’t have saved this until Monday huh?” said another response.

Per Adam Schefter’s report, Kellen Moore has been the top choice for the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching position since he went through two interviews in January.

The Saints are holding off on finalizing the contract to comply with NFL rules that prohibit contact during the no-contact period before the Super Bowl, a rule that previously caused issues for the Arizona Cardinals when they hired ex-Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

However, Schefter himself isn’t bound by these restrictions and thus was able to break the news the night before the big game.

“Just announce this after the game why do this right now,” complained an Eagles fan. “Such a joke shefty.”

“Dropping this the night before the Super Bowl is nasty work Adam,” one person said.

The New Orleans Saints let go of Dennis Allen mid-season, with special teams coach Darren Rizzi stepping in as interim head coach as they ended the year with a dismal 5-12 record, placing last in the NFC South.

If hired, Kellen Moore would step into his first head coaching role, having previously served as offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys. Under Moore’s coordination, the Eagles’ offense this season has been the eighth best in the NFL, averaging 367.2 yards per game.
