Fiorentina has announced that Moise Kean is out of the hospital after a frightening moment during their match against Hellas Verona.
Kean, who played for Everton between 2019 and 2021, was rushed to a Verona hospital on Sunday after he collapsed on the pitch following a clash with Hellas Verona’s Pawel Dawidowicz and Diego Coppola.
The replay showed how Dawidowicz’s knee accidentally caught Kean’s head as they battled for the ball.
Even though he got medical treatment on the spot for a cut above his eye and briefly continued playing, Kean suddenly crumpled to the ground in the 67th minute, lying still and sparking serious concern, prompting medics to step in right away.
The 24-year-old Italian striker was given oxygen, fitted with a neck brace, and carried off on a stretcher before being taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he stayed overnight for monitoring.
A positive update on Kean’s situation was shared on Monday morning with Fiorentina’s writing: “ACF Fiorentina announces that Moise Kean was discharged from the Verona hospital during the night and returned to Florence. The clinical and diagnostic tests carried out were all negative.”
After a tense pause, the game restarted at 0-0, only for Hellas Verona to clinch a dramatic win in the dying seconds. Substitute Antoine Bernede popped up with a late, decisive strike, boosting Hellas three places up the Serie A table while Fiorentina stayed put in sixth.
Kean made the switch to La Viola at the beginning of this season, returning after his second spell with Juventus.
The Italian forward has been in red-hot form, bagging 19 goals in 29 games since arriving in a transfer worth £10.8 million upfront, with the potential to climb to £14.9m.
Kean’s scare was the second time this season a Fiorentina player has faced a health emergency. Back in December, midfielder Edoardo Bove was rushed to the hospital and admitted to intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest during a clash with Inter Milan.
The 22-year-old Bove is bouncing back after having a defibrillator fitted and was spotted in the stands during Sunday’s away game against Hellas. Sadly, Serie A regulations bar players with defibrillators from playing, impacting the midfielder who’s on loan from Roma.
Fiorentina, now reeling from three losses in a row, will look to turn things around next with a home fixture against struggling Lecce.
Raffaele Palladino’s squad then takes on Greek giants Panathinaikos in the Conference League round of 16 across two legs, with a tough trip to title-chasing Napoli squeezed in between. That’s just part of a brutal stretch in Serie A, where they’ll face off against four of the top seven teams.
