Manchester City have received a major boost ahead of their crucial trip to Tottenham on Wednesday, with Oscar Bobb returning to first-team training after six months on the sidelines.
Mail Sport previously reported that Bobb, 21, was nearing a return, and the Danish forward has now been spotted training with his City teammates during a pivotal stage of the season.
Currently fourth in the Premier League, City are just two points ahead of Newcastle, Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. They are also out of the Champions League following their playoff defeat to Real Madrid.
While Bobb may not be ready to face Ange Postecoglou’s side, Pep Guardiola will be pleased to have an additional attacking option for the remainder of the campaign.
Bobb was expected to break into Guardiola’s starting lineup this season but suffered a fractured leg in training last August. The Norway international impressed in pre-season and at the Community Shield, with Guardiola initially planning to use him as the first-choice right winger.
City had hoped Bobb would return ahead of their FA Cup tie against Leyton Orient earlier this month, but he suffered a setback.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland remains a fitness doubt for the Spurs clash after missing City’s last two games. The club’s top scorer has been out since February 15, when he jarred his knee in a 4-0 win over Newcastle. His absence was felt in City’s defeats to Real Madrid and Liverpool, where they struggled to convert possession into goals.
Guardiola expressed optimism on Tuesday that the 24-year-old could be available for the trip to north London, but no final decision has been made.
‘Tonight, we will know it after training,’ Guardiola said. ‘I hope so but I don’t know yet.
‘He feels better but the last two games he could not play. We’ll see tomorrow.’
Spurs have proven to be a difficult opponent for Guardiola and Manchester City, especially on the road, with City winning just two of their eight matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
