Riding a five-game win streak, the Golden State Warriors traveled to Philadelphia on Saturday night, only to suffer a disappointing 126-119 defeat at the hands of the 76ers.
Quentin Grimes stole the show with a stunning 44-point performance, leading Philadelphia to victory.
The Warriors were without newly acquired All-Star forward Jimmy Butler, who missed his first game since being traded to Golden State.
His absence was felt as the Warriors struggled to match the 76ers’ firepower. Philadelphia shot an impressive 52.9% from the field and an even more lethal 57.6% from beyond the arc.
While Butler’s presence would have made a difference, Golden State is also feeling the loss of Jonathan Kuminga.
The standout forward has been sidelined for 26 games due to an ankle injury, and his absence continues to weaken the Warriors’ rotation.
However, there’s hope on the horizon. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Warriors are keeping Kuminga out for at least one more game but may extend his return until next week. His comeback could provide the boost Golden State needs as they look to regain momentum.
“Jonathan Kuminga is really close to his return,” Charania said. “He’s in the final stages of a rehab of his significant ankle sprain he suffered in January. His return will not be tonight, it’s unlikely to be Monday in Charlotte. They have three more games on this road trip before they return home. I’m told the Warriors are considering waiting until next weekend, when they’re back at home, for his return.
At 22 years old, Jonathan Kuminga has been a key contributor to the Warriors’ success this season, averaging 16.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
His return will add an intriguing dynamic to Golden State’s revamped lineup, but with their talent and experience, the team is well-equipped to integrate him smoothly ahead of the postseason.
