Lions Penei Sewell Will Toss First Pitch at Tigers Opening Day

The Detroit Tigers have a special guest lined up for their opening day at Comerica Park to kick off the season with flair.

Penei Sewell, the standout right tackle for the Detroit Lions, will grace the mound to deliver the ceremonial first pitch before the enthusiastic crowd.

The Lions have been consistent supporters of the Tigers, who have made an impressive 4-0 start to their 2024 season.

Lions players have been frequent attendees at Comerica Park, often participating in the tradition of throwing out the first pitch.

Anticipation is high for the Tigers' home opener, with expectations of a packed stadium and standing-room-only tickets nearly sold out.

Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports and Entertainment, expressed excitement about welcoming fans back to Comerica Park.

He promised an enhanced experience with the introduction of a brand-new scoreboard, upgraded sound system, and an array of new and traditional offerings throughout the season.

The National Anthem for the opening day will be performed by Grace West, a finalist on 'The Voice' last season.

The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. on Friday, April 5, with gates opening at 10:30 a.m.

In other notable events, the Tigers will honor former manager Jim Leyland's induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 3, during the game against the Royals.

Additionally, on Saturday, August 31, they will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1984 World Series championship team when they face the Boston Red Sox.

Furthermore, the first 15,000 fans entering Comerica Park on each Saturday home game will receive giveaways.
