The New York Knicks are expected to focus on improving their depth this offseason. While their starting lineup ranks among the league’s most well-rounded, the thin bench could prove to be a major obstacle in their pursuit of a title during their current 3-to-4 year contention window.

Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World suggested a notable mock trade in which the Knicks would acquire Brooklyn Nets sharpshooter Cameron Johnson in return for Josh Hart and a first-round draft pick.

“Cameron Johnson’s sharpshooting and versatility have made him a valuable asset for the Brooklyn Nets this season as he is posting a career-high 18.8 points per game on 39.2% from three. His ability to stretch the floor with his three-point shooting would complement the Knicks’ offense, providing much-needed spacing for Brunson and Towns to operate,” Bitar wrote.

The potential benefits of pulling off this trade include the Knicks acquiring a high-caliber scorer who also brings solid defense, all at a relatively modest price.

Cameron Johnson’s elite perimeter shooting and confidence in taking shots make him a natural fit in New York’s offensive system.

He has stepped up as a reliable second option for the Nets alongside Cam Thomas, even though Brooklyn has struggled this season.

Johnson drew significant interest at the trade deadline, with many expecting him to be moved, but he ultimately remained with the Nets.

However, the Knicks might be cautious about giving up Josh Hart in such a deal. Hart has been one of the most influential players on the roster this season, contributing across the board with averages of 13.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.5 steals. His all-around game brings immense value to New York.

Although his hesitance to shoot has occasionally hindered the Knicks’ offense, Hart’s overall impact — especially in areas that are difficult to replicate for a player of his size — could make parting with him a tough decision.

What New York decides to do this offseason will likely depend on how things unfold in the playoffs.

As for Johnson, a move to a playoff contender seems likely this summer, and the Knicks are expected to be among the teams showing strong interest.
