Italian sources suggest that Juventus is currently negotiating to bring Spezia’s young defender and Italy U21 international, Nicolò Bertola, on board as a free agent.
While Juventus are on the brink of confirming the acquisition of Newcastle’s Lloyd Kelly, they’re simultaneously eyeing another signing for the upcoming season.
According to Sky Sport Italia and Ilbianconero.com, Juventus has opened discussions with Nicolò Bertola from Spezia. His contract is set to end in June, prompting Juventus to target a free transfer.
Should Bertola agree to the terms, he would stay on loan with Spezia until the season’s end, joining Juventus at the start of the 2025-26 season.
This season, Bertola has featured in 21 matches for Spezia, who are currently third in Serie B. He has contributed with three goals and two assists.
He’s also made seven appearances for Italy’s U21 team.
Moreover, Juventus is looking at player sales, with rumors that Nicolò Fagioli might move to Marseille before the transfer window shuts.
How Juventus plan to keep Randal Kolo Muani when his loan expires
Juventus is already strategizing to retain Randal Kolo Muani in Turin past this season, given his impressive performances since joining the club.
The Bianconeri were in need of a new forward with Arkadiusz Milik’s ongoing injuries and Dusan Vlahovic’s inconsistent form, leading them to bring in the French international who was surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain under Luis Enrique.
PSG allowed the 26-year-old to join Juventus on a straight loan until the season’s end. Although there’s no current option to buy, Juventus is eager to find a way to keep him beyond this summer, especially after his impactful start at the club.
Kolo Muani marked his Serie A debut with a goal against Napoli at the Stadio Maradona, despite the match resulting in a loss for Juventus. His first game at the Allianz Stadium was even more remarkable, turning the game against Empoli with a brace in just three minutes.
According to TuttoJuve journalist Massimo Pavan, Juventus aims to negotiate a new deal with PSG next summer, potentially another loan but this time with an option to buy. However, it’s likely PSG will push for an obligation-to-buy clause.
PSG had spent 95 million euros to acquire Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023, but he didn’t live up to that price tag during his 18 months at the club. Even after Kylian Mbappe’s exit, Kolo Muani struggled to secure a consistent starting role, with Enrique preferring a false 9 system.
