Fenerbahce withdrew from negotiations for Lloyd Kelly after Newcastle United rejected their proposal, but Juventus remains engaged in discussions.
Juventus initially made a £10 million bid for the 25-year-old, which Newcastle declined. They later returned with a loan offer including an option to buy, only to face another rejection.
Kelly, who joined Newcastle on a free transfer during the summer after departing Bournemouth, has been a regular feature in matchday squads but has seen limited playing time.
When given opportunities on the pitch, his performances have failed to impress, prompting many fans to suggest that cashing in on him during the January transfer window would be a sensible move.
Newcastle are getting their defensive depth back
Newcastle are gradually regaining defensive options after facing a shortage due to long-term injuries to Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman, along with a recent setback for Emil Krafth.
However, Botman has returned to action, Krafth is nearing full fitness, and Lascelles is making steady progress toward recovery.
This situation could pave the way for Lloyd Kelly’s departure, as The Chronicle reports that Juventus is preparing to return with a revised loan offer, this time including an obligation to buy rather than an option.
The updated proposal might persuade Newcastle to agree to the deal. However, the Magpies reportedly value Kelly at £25 million, and Juventus’ willingness to commit to such a significant fee in the summer could determine the outcome.
Additionally, the deal could provide Newcastle with an upfront fee for the loan, remove Kelly from the wage bill, and improve their Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) position, making it an attractive option.
That said, Newcastle could still reject Juventus’ offer outright to maintain squad depth. Nevertheless, it appears the Italian club is determined to persist in their pursuit of Kelly.
