Florida State kicker Ryan Fitzgerald is officially NFL-bound—the only mystery now is which team will call his name after the draft wraps up on April 24.
The 6-foot-1 standout from Coolidge, Georgia, earned All-American honors in 2024 and has drawn attention from several franchises.
In a conversation with The Draft Network, Fitzgerald shared that he’s been in contact with multiple teams, including the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, and, more recently, the Washington Commanders.
“I’ve had a few team interviews. I just had my first private workout with the New England Patriots, and I have more of them in the works with the Washington Commanders and Baltimore Ravens,” Fitzgerald said to Justin Melo of TDN. “I’ve been excited to show these teams what I can do. We’ll see what comes of it.”
Ryan Fitzgerald wrapped up the 2024 season without missing a single field goal, going 14-for-14 and proving to be a steady presence for Florida State—whether during the highs of the 2023 ACC Championship push or the lows of last year’s 2-10 campaign.
Across those two standout seasons, he maintained an impressive 90% field goal conversion rate.
A Lou Groza Award finalist, Fitzgerald handled kicking duties for the Seminoles over the past five years. He finished his college career hitting 58 of 74 field goal attempts (78.4%), including a career-best 59-yarder last season. On extra points, he was nearly flawless, converting 178 of 182 tries (97.8%).
The Washington Commanders have already re-signed veteran kicker Zane Gonzalez for the upcoming season, but if they opt to bring in Fitzgerald, he’ll bring serious competition.
The team has also looked at Miami’s Andres Borregales, who boasted a 94.7% field goal success rate last year, according to Commanders Wire.
While Fitzgerald’s NFL destination is still up in the air, his accuracy, strong leg, and cool demeanor under pressure make him a serious contender. Now, all that’s left is for one NFL franchise to make the call.
