The 2025 NFL Draft has wrapped up, but the action hasn’t completely stopped. Over the past two days, hundreds of undrafted free agents have been signing with teams. With the search for the next hidden gem underway, franchises are leaving no stone unturned.

According to his Instagram, former Florida State center Maurice Smith is among several Seminoles getting an NFL opportunity.

Smith is set to join the Washington Commanders for rookie minicamp in a few weeks.

Smith just completed a six-year career at Florida State, finishing with 52 career starts — the second-most in the program’s history. In 2024, he was the most experienced player on the Seminoles’ roster.

The Florida native is one of only two offensive linemen to start a game for Florida State in six straight seasons. Last year, he started 11 games, earning a 63.0 overall grade across 710 snaps, according to PFF. Notably, he posted a career-best 73.0 pass-blocking grade. Smith also received the Bobby Bowden Leadership Award and the Bill McGrotha Award.

During Florida State’s back-to-back double-digit win seasons in 2022 and 2023, Smith started 24 games and earned honorable mention All-ACC honors both years. He also started in FSU’s 2023 ACC Championship win over Louisville.

At 6-foot-3 and 298 pounds, Smith impressed at Florida State’s Pro Day by bench-pressing 225 pounds 32 times, leading all participants. He also posted a 4.95-second shuttle and a 7.62-second 3-cone drill.

The Commanders are scheduled to hold their rookie minicamp from May 8-11.
