West Ham midfielder Carlos Soler could secure a permanent move to the club, as Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly seeking an agreement, according to Daily Mail Sports.
The newspaper’s print edition (page 5, 20 January) revealed that the French side is eager to finalize a deal for the on-loan player. Meanwhile, L’Equipe reported on 19 January that PSG has long anticipated the Hammers activating his £16.9 million buyout clause.
Soler, the Spanish international, has played 17 Premier League matches this season, contributing one goal and one assist.
The former Valencia player was initially considered more of a Julen Lopetegui signing than one favored by Tim Steidten, leaving questions about his future at the London Stadium following Lopetegui’s dismissal.
However, the 28-year-old has appeared in all three games under new manager Graham Potter, scoring in the 3-2 victory against Fulham on 14 January. His recent performances could encourage West Ham to expedite a permanent deal.
Given PSG’s reasonable £16.9 million asking price for such an experienced midfielder, the move seems logical.
Soler is already familiar with the club and is a full Spanish international, making this transfer a practical decision in a market where fees are often inflated.
Securing Soler would also allow Potter to allocate funds to address other priorities, such as strengthening the defence and signing a much-needed striker.
