Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has suggested that Celtic are “highly likely” to secure the signing of a “special” player during the January transfer window.

As Brendan Rodgers aims to strengthen his squad for a successful second half of the season across multiple competitions, the Hoops continue to be linked with several potential additions.

Among the rumored targets is Manchester City’s James McAtee. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has struggled to break into Pep Guardiola’s plans recently, despite the team’s challenges in the Premier League. McAtee could bring significant quality to Celtic’s attack, enhancing their offensive capabilities and bolstering their chances in various tournaments.

Celtic are also reportedly considering two Chelsea midfielders, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka, as possible signings. Both players have found opportunities limited at Stamford Bridge this season, with midfield competition from Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Romeo Lavia.

Additionally, Brondby forward Mathias Kvistgaarden has been linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership champions, potentially offering more options and competition in the attacking department.

Speaking to Football Insider, Sky Sports pundit Robinson also hinted that Celtic may finalize a reunion with Kieran Tierney in January, further strengthening their squad for the challenges ahead.

“It’s achievable. That’s probably what both parties would want, even Arsenal wouldn’t stand in his way. Like you say, injuries, not playing, he’s not been part of Mikel Arteta’s squad going forward. [Him leaving] frees that space up in Arsenal’s squad, [and] for Tierney, it’s a great fit. For Celtic, it seems a great fit. That one looks like it’s got highly likely potential of happening in January.”

Bringing Kieran Tierney back to Celtic is an obvious choice given his exceptional quality and the immense popularity he enjoyed during his initial spell at Parkhead.

While the left-back hasn’t established himself as a consistent first-choice option as he might have hoped, Mikel Arteta has still spoken highly of him during his time at Arsenal, praising his contributions and abilities.

“I am really looking forward to working with him and giving him the opportunity to play. His attitude, his commitment, his willingness it’s incredible. I think he’s going to bring something special to us.”

At just 27 years old, Kieran Tierney has the potential to be a crucial player for Celtic for another five or six years. Returning to Parkhead and contributing to further trophy success could solidify his legendary status, especially amid reports that he is willing to take a pay cut to make the move happen.

The prospect of playing more regularly is likely to appeal to the Scotland international as he aims to reignite his career and make the most of his prime years, rather than remaining stagnant at Arsenal.
