Celtic fans have been given the green light to attend the upcoming Champions League match against Bayern Munich in Germany, following a UEFA decision to ease previous restrictions.
The team was initially under a suspended ban for away fans after a green smoke canister was tossed by supporters during a 4-2 loss to Aston Villa last month.
However, instead of an outright ban, UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has opted for a 10,000 euro (£8,340) fine for the use of fireworks and throwing objects.
This comes after Celtic had previously been fined 20,000 euros and given a one-match suspended ban on away tickets after a significant pyrotechnic show during their match against Borussia Dortmund in September.
The club had cautioned fans that another incident could lead to an away ban for the second leg of their knockout stage play-off at the Allianz Arena on February 18.
Despite the good news, Celtic reminded fans that the threat of future suspensions still looms.
A statement from Celtic Football Club acknowledged the fine from UEFA for the fireworks incident during the Aston Villa game.
“We can confirm that Celtic supporters will be able to attend our forthcoming Champions League match in Munich. As we had said previously, Celtic made every effort to ensure that our fans could attend this match, and we are pleased that UEFA has considered our detailed submission.
“We can also confirm that the original suspended sentence remains in place, as a result of the previous use of pyrotechnics, most recently at the match against Borussia Dortmund, by a small minority of supporters.
“Again we must make it very clear that pyrotechnics have absolutely no place at our matches and should further incidents occur, then clearly, once again, there is an extremely high risk of our supporters not being permitted access to future matches.”
