When LIV Golf first landed Brooks Koepka, it was seen as a major score for the upstart league. Fast forward to today – with five LIV wins and a major title under his belt – and it’s clear why they fought so hard to get him. But Koepka isn’t just another player collecting checks.
As captain of Smash GC, he’s got his hands in everything from team management to league operations, giving him a unique insider’s perspective.
And frankly? He’s not blown away by what he’s seen.
While the 34-year-old star remains committed to the Saudi-backed tour, he’s not about to sugarcoat its flaws.
In a recent sit-down with sports analyst Joe Pompliano on The Joe Pomp Show, the five-time major winner dropped a blunt assessment: LIV simply hasn’t progressed as much as he expected.
“Look we’re 4 years in, it’s just getting its feet wet and figuring out what direction they want it to go,” Koepka said. “Obviously there’s been a lot of change and hires of people within LIV and now having Scott [new CEO Scott O’Neal]… I think Scott’s a great guy and he can lead LIV to where it needs to be and where I think it should be.”
“Because we are behind. To be quite fair. Behind where we should be. From bringing sponsors in to hitting the international market and the US market.”
Koepka did point to one potential bright spot—the league’s new TV deal with Fox Sports. He hinted it could be a game-changer for LIV’s visibility.
“[The new TV deal with Fox Sports] definitely helps, but we need to take that and expand it and grow it. We’re not on Fox every time we play. So we’ve still got room to grow but we’ve got the right people in charge now and I’m excited to see where it goes.”
People keep wondering if Brooks Koepka’s really committed to LIV Golf – especially after Fred Couples recently spilled that the five-time major winner supposedly wants back on the PGA Tour.
The ’92 Masters champ even claimed they’d talked about it personally. When pressed about Couples’ comments days later, Koepka didn’t exactly shoot them down.
He did stress he’s focused on honoring his LIV contract through 2026… but followed up with a telling ‘We’ll see’ about what comes next.
