Brighton winger Simon Adingra’s future remains uncertain following the arrival of Tommy Watson.

Albion secured a deal for their long-term target Watson yesterday, reportedly for an initial £10 million fee. The 18-year-old winger will finish the season at Sunderland before joining the Seagulls in the summer.

Watson was close to signing for Brighton last January, but the two clubs failed to reach an agreement before the deadline.

Meanwhile, Sunderland, currently fourth in the Championship, were reportedly interested in taking Adingra on loan, but the Ivory Coast international stayed at Brighton.

Adingra has struggled for game time this season, with Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh ahead of him in the pecking order.

The 23-year-old has featured in 20 Premier League matches but started only six. He has recorded five goals and one assist across all competitions, delivering an impressive performance off the bench in Brighton’s FA Cup quarter-final penalty-shootout defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler said: “He proved what he can do against Nottingham. Great game, great impact.

“He created a lot of chances and that is exactly what we want to see from him.

“It is not the easiest season for him, but the season has still a long time to go and there are still a lot of opportunities to prove why he is here.

“I am sure he will do it because he is in very good shape.

“He proved it against Nottingham, he proved it for the national team, for Cote d’Ivoire, so I am happy he is here.”

Adingra’s contract with Brighton runs until June 2026, and he has played 64 matches, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists.

He moved to Brighton in 2022 from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland for approximately £8 million and also had a loan spell in Belgium with Union SG.

Brighton, currently in seventh place, play their next Premier League game tonight at home against Aston Villa.
