Bobby Madden forecasts internet meltdown with Rangers vs Celtic ref appointment

Bobby Madden predicted an online meltdown ahead of John Beaton's confirmation as the referee for Rangers vs Celtic this weekend.

The whistler has been picked by the Scottish FA to take charge of the biggest game of the season so far on April 7 when the two top clubs do battle at Ibrox for top of the Premiership table.

The Hoops currently lead the division by one point albeit their rivals have a game in hand and Madden suggested no matter who the SFA opted to choose for this one would "break" the internet.

Madden, taking to social media, wrote ahead of the announcement: "Old Firm appointment day. Internet will break no matter who is announced at 10.30."

He then followed it up with confirmation of Beaton as the pick having issued a poll for football fans to vote on who they expected to be the man in the middle on Sunday.

Madden has plenty of experience as whistler on derby day having taken charge of his fair share and he knew the likes of Nick Walsh and Don Robertson would not be available having already bossed one fixture between the Glasgow giants this term.

Celtic news bulletin as Jake Clarke Salter 'interest' emerges while final Adam Idah transfer call faces delay

Celtic face a English Premier League transfer tussle for QPR defender Jake Clarke-Salter, according to a report.

The Hoops have been named as one of a host of clubs who are 'interested' in snapping up the centre-back. Brendan Rodgers currently has Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales as his first choice duo with Maik Nawrocki, Stephen Welsh and Gustaf Lagerbielke in reserve. The latter had a proposed move to Italy cancelled late on in January and could well depart in the summer having barely featured since his move to Scotland.

Clarke-Salter - who is under contract until 2026 - also has the likes of Crystal Palace, Burnley, Wolves and English Championship promotion chases Ipswich Town keeping tabs claim The Sun. He came through the ranks at Chelsea and has been an ever-present in England's second tier for QPR this term. He's also been capped at England Under-21 level.

As well as the Stamford Bridge outfit the stopper has turned out for Bristol Rovers, Sunderland, Vitesse, Birminham City and Coventry City throughout his career to date. Meanwhile, Adam Idah will need to wait until the end of the current campaign to learn his own situation at Celtic with his loan at Norwich City expiring at that point.

Rodgers snapped up the Irishman on a temporary deal from the Canaries and he's settled into life well in Glasgow netting five goals in just 10 apperances so far. All his goals have come from eight outings in the Scottish Premiership and he is likely to play a key role in whether the Hoops can retain their league crown and lift the Scottish Cup.

Football Scotland report that the English Championship side are waiting to see how their own loan capture in the shape of Sydney van Hooijdonk pans out and won't commit to selling Idah until the Dutchman proves his worth between now and the summer.

Elsewhere, South Korea Olympics boss Hwang Seon-Hong is also remaining hopeful that Celtic will give him the green light to call up Yang Hyun-jun to his squad for the Asian Under-23s Cup.

The Hoops are under no obligation to release the player but the national team boss insists he would allow special dispensation for the likes of Yang and other overseas players to arrive just days before the tournament - which doubles up as a qualifier for the Olympics - gets underway.
