Blow for Rangers: 20 y/o not only out vs Motherwell and may miss Benfica

As the schedule becomes more congested, Rangers will aim to maintain their position at the summit of the Scottish Premiership while also maneuvering through Benfica in the Europa League.

However, achieving this will be no easy task, particularly in light of Philippe Clement's recent injury report.

Rangers already have a considerable injury list, making Clement's recent achievements even more remarkable as they overtook Celtic at the league's summit.

Even before the latest update, Rangers were on track to be without up to five players for their upcoming match against Motherwell.

With Celtic trailing just two points behind in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers cannot afford any mistakes in the coming weeks. However, as their injury list expands and fixtures continue to pile up, it may become increasingly challenging for the Gers.

To compound their woes, Clement has confirmed that Oscar Cortes sustained a muscle injury during the Kilmarnock match. As a result, he will consult with a specialist, and his return date remains uncertain.

As the former AS Monaco manager couldn't provide a clear timeline for the return of their January loan acquisition, it appears probable that Rangers will be without him for their Europa League last 16 clash against Benfica. The first leg, scheduled in Portugal, is just around the corner next Thursday, with the second leg set for March 14 at Ibrox, making it a crucial showdown for Rangers' European aspirations.

Cortes has already impressed at Rangers

Rangers are reportedly considering a permanent deal for Cortes this summer, reflecting the 20-year-old RC Lens winger's strong performances since his arrival in January. Clement has openly praised the loanee for his contributions.

"He is somebody who can help the team and who feels good in his way of football. He had six months in Lens, where they had a different style and he didn’t play many minutes – or almost nothing – but it’s good that our recruitment knew him already for a long time and they said he would fit the team and the squad and he could give something that we need for the next couple of months

"It’s clear already from the first training that he can help us with achieving our goals."

Cortes' injury setback is particularly frustrating for Rangers, given his positive impact, especially as they gear up to face Portuguese powerhouse Benfica. Clement will be anxiously awaiting a favorable update when the winger consults with a specialist regarding his muscle problem.
