How secure are general manager positions in the NFL? Typically, GMs are let go when their teams consistently fall short of becoming playoff contenders.

However, Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead has built a strong track record, especially following his decision to hire Sean McVay as head coach.

In a recent league-wide evaluation of general manager performance, Bleacher Report’s Cory Davenport provided a temperature check on the job security of all 32 NFL GMs.

While none received a red-hot danger rating of 10/10, Davenport did highlight uncertain futures for several general managers heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.

But that’s not unusual—every season, job security in the NFL hinges heavily on wins and losses. Teams that fail to produce results often start the next season searching for new leadership.

That appears to be the situation for New York Giants GM Joe Schoen in 2025, though he’s not the only one under pressure.

As for Rams GM Les Snead, the architect behind the now-iconic strategy of trading draft picks for proven veterans, his job appears to be among the most secure.

Davenport gave Snead a 1 out of 10 on the hot seat scale—indicating one of the safest positions in the league—and praised his performance accordingly.

“This doesn’t mean Snead can’t draft, though. In 2014 he picked one of the best defensive players of all time in Aaron Donald, and with his first first-rounder in eight years in 2024, Snead took edge-rusher Jared Verse, who went on to be named Defensive Rookie of the Year.”

Cory Davenport ranks Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort as the most at risk, giving him a 7 out of 10 on the hot seat scale.

San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch and Seattle Seahawks GM John Schneider receive more moderate assessments, while Les Snead stands out as the most secure, with a rating of just 1 out of 10.

Though these ratings suggest varying levels of job stability, they’re unlikely to influence how general managers approach this year’s draft.

As for Rams GM Les Snead, he’s expected to remain one of the league’s most aggressive decision-makers. Time will tell.
