There’s nothing more painful for fans than watching top free agents join a rival — especially one that constantly stands in their team’s way. For Buffalo Bills fans, no rival has been more frustrating than the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Bills and Chiefs have built a playoff rivalry over the past decade, with Kansas City consistently getting the better of Buffalo when it matters most. Regular-season victories mean little when the Chiefs seem to always prevail in the postseason, whether the game is in Orchard Park or Arrowhead.

Though teams like the Bengals and Ravens have also been tough opponents, it’s the Chiefs who have become Buffalo’s biggest roadblock to a Super Bowl. And despite a relatively quiet offseason from Kansas City — both in free agency and the draft — having Patrick Mahomes under center keeps them in championship contention.

As the NFL heads into the quieter stretch of the offseason, plenty of unsigned free agents remain available. The Bills acted quickly after the draft, signing wide receiver Elijah Moore to a one-year deal in an effort to bolster their offense.

However, one name still on the market could change the game for any team willing to take the risk: Nick Chubb. The veteran running back has spent seven seasons with the Browns but has appeared in only 10 games over the last two years due to injuries. Despite limited availability, Chubb’s impact when healthy is undeniable.

Bills fans will be hoping he doesn’t end up where CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin says he’d be a “perfect fit” — potentially further strengthening one of Buffalo’s key rivals.

CBS Sports lists Chiefs as a perfect landing spot for Nick Chubb

Alongside the Chiefs, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin also named the Bears and Broncos as strong potential landing spots for free-agent running back Nick Chubb. But if Chubb is prioritizing winning a championship, Kansas City would be the clear choice — and that possibility should worry Bills fans.

A playoff clash between the Bills and Chiefs has become a yearly expectation, and if Kansas City were to add Chubb to an offense already led by Patrick Mahomes, Buffalo’s defense could be facing a nightmare scenario.

When healthy, Chubb is one of the most bruising and consistent runners in the NFL. From 2019 to 2022, he posted four straight seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards and totaled 40 touchdowns.

While his best years may be behind him, he still has the ability to be a dangerous contributor — especially in a system where he doesn’t need to carry the full load.

Joining forces with Isiah Pacheco in Kansas City’s backfield would give the Chiefs a two-headed rushing threat, enhancing an already potent offense. And while the Bills have focused on strengthening their defensive line this offseason, their run defense has been vulnerable in recent years. Facing Mahomes and Chubb in the same playoff game could be a serious problem for Buffalo.

Do you think the Bills should pursue a veteran of their own to counter such a move?
