Bengals Fans Get Horrible Trey Hendrickson Rumor Update

The Cincinnati Bengals are riding high after securing long-term extensions for star receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, ensuring quarterback Joe Burrow has his top weapons locked in.

However, one major contract situation remains unresolved—edge rusher Trey Hendrickson is still awaiting a new deal.

While rumors continue swirling about a possible trade, there are also signs of optimism. Bengals cornerback Josh Newton fueled speculation by tweeting, “91 Loading,” hinting at Hendrickson’s potential extension.

The star pass rusher has been dominant, recording 17.5 sacks in back-to-back seasons and 57 total sacks over four years, earning four consecutive Pro Bowl nods and a first-team All-Pro selection.

Now, a new twist has emerged—ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Hendrickson might not return at all if he doesn’t secure a new contract.

According to Fowler, “it’s entirely possible” that Hendrickson could sit out the entire 2025 season, adding another layer of uncertainty to the Bengals’ offseason.

“I think it’s entirely possible, based on what I’m hearing, for him to sit out the year if he doesn’t get a new deal,” Fowler said. “I think that’s his mindset right now.” Yeah … we’ll that that bet.

Hendrickson, 30, is currently set to play the 2025 season on a one-year, $21 million contract, but he’s reportedly seeking a deal worth over $30 million annually—a figure that seems reasonable given the current market.

With Cincinnati already committing big money to Ja’Marr Chase (four years, $161 million) and Tee Higgins (four years, $115 million), along with Joe Burrow’s $55 million-per-year contract, another major extension would make the roster financially top-heavy. However, cap flexibility always exists, and a deal remains possible.

As for the report that Hendrickson could “sit out the entire season”? That speculation sounds more like agent-driven leverage than a real threat.

While the rumors may stir drama, both the Bengals and Hendrickson understand they need each other to succeed. The most likely outcome? A deal gets done despite the noise.
