Arsenal is reportedly preparing a January transfer move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons, amid speculation that the Dutch star could leave the French club. The 21-year-old is said to be considering a potential switch to the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have been linked with Simons since last spring. Currently on loan at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, he has delivered an impressive performance, featuring in 54 matches, scoring 13 goals, and providing 17 assists. Leipzig sits fourth in the Bundesliga after 12 games, with Simons playing a key role in their campaign.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Arsenal could be a strong contender for Simons if he decides to depart PSG. However, there is no confirmation about his next move. Simons has two years left on his contract with PSG, and reports suggest the midfielder has shown no interest in extending his deal, potentially forcing the club to sell him for a profit. PSG originally acquired Simons from Eredivisie side PSV in 2023, following his youth career at the Parc des Princes.
GiveMeSport reports that Arsenal is currently the most likely destination for Simons. The publication suggests he could strengthen Mikel Arteta’s midfield alongside stars like Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice. However, there is competition for his signature, with interest from clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga. PSG is expected to receive no shortage of bids if they opt to sell Simons.
Liverpool is also eyeing the Dutch international as a potential addition to their squad. Meanwhile, Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the midfielder, while RB Leipzig hopes to secure him on a permanent deal. However, financial constraints may hinder the German club, as reports indicate Bayern Munich previously valued Simons at £83 million.
Borussia Dortmund has also emerged as a possible destination for Simons. Regardless, the midfielder appears unlikely to face difficulties securing a move should he refuse to extend his PSG contract before the summer transfer window.
