Ajax reject €5m bid from AS Roma for defender Devyne Rensch
According to Voetbal International, Ajax has rejected a €5 million bid from AS Roma for Devyne Rensch, considering the offer too low.
While the Dutch club is open to selling the defender, given he has just six months remaining on his current contract, they appear to value him higher.
Rensch has been a key player for Ajax under Francesco Farioli, featuring in 24 matches across all competitions this season.
Although Ajax is keen to extend the 21-year-old’s contract, it remains unclear whether he plans to stay at the Johan Cruyff Arena beyond June.
In anticipation of Rensch’s potential departure, Ajax is already considering alternatives, with former academy player Youri Regeer identified as a replacement.
Regeer, now at FC Twente, left Ajax in the summer of 2023 for approximately €1 million. Ajax has a €5 million buy-back clause for the defender and is prepared to activate it if Rensch leaves during the current transfer window.
Roma Eye Ajax’s Rensch: Negotiations Underway
Roma has identified Ajax’s talented young defender Devyne Rensch as a key target, with initial discussions already underway between the two clubs. The 21-year-old Dutch right-back has attracted the Giallorossi’s attention as they aim to strengthen their defensive lineup.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Rensch’s contract with Ajax, which runs until June 2025, makes him an appealing option for Roma.
The Italian side hopes to leverage his contract status to negotiate a lower transfer fee.
Ajax currently values Rensch at approximately €10 million, but with only 18 months remaining on his contract, there is room for negotiation.
By February, Rensch will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs, enabling a free transfer in the summer of 2025.
Since breaking into Ajax’s first team, Rensch has impressed with his versatility and offensive contributions from the right-back position.
His potential move aligns with Roma’s focus on acquiring young talent with significant future resale value.
