Agreement reached- claim made for Celtic’s first 2025 exit

Celtic to sign "special" player for Rodgers in January

Uriel Lugt has reported that Internacional have signed Alexandro Bernabei from Celtic on a contract lasting until December 2028.

The Argentine defender had an impressive loan spell with the Brazilian club after quietly departing Celtic in March, leaving Greg Taylor as the only natural left-back option.

Lugt, an Argentinian journalist for Mercado de Pasas, has 13,600 followers on X and follows 738 accounts. While no transfer fee has been disclosed, it is believed Celtic secured a profit on the £3.5 million they paid to Lanús during the 2022 summer transfer window.

In his first season with Celtic, Bernabei showed promise but struggled to compete with Taylor, who was in top form. Under Brendan Rodgers, Bernabei’s opportunities became even more limited.

After arriving late to a team meeting before the opening SPFL match, he was excluded from the matchday squad and later omitted from the Champions League roster.

The 24-year-old managed four appearances in January and February when Taylor was injured, but Rodgers sometimes opted to play Tony Ralston out of position instead.

A permanent move to Internacional appears to be a favorable outcome for all parties. Celtic likely included a sell-on clause in the deal, ensuring they could benefit from any future transfer if Bernabei returns to Europe during his four-year contract.

Rodgers can sign his new Rogic in Celtic move for “special” star who’s “like Odegaard”

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is undoubtedly thrilled with his team’s outstanding performance during the 2024/25 season so far.

The Hoops remain unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership, sitting 14 points clear at the top of the table with 16 wins from 18 matches ahead of their Old Firm clash with Rangers this afternoon.

Additionally, they have already secured the League Cup, defeating their Glasgow rivals on penalties in the final at Hampden Park, a trophy they missed out on last season.

Despite their remarkable form across all competitions, Rodgers is keen to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window, which opened earlier this week.

Reports suggest the Celtic boss is targeting a reunion with Scotland international Kieran Tierney, aiming for a pre-contract agreement to bring him back in the summer on a free transfer from Arsenal.

Tierney, who joined the Gunners from Celtic in 2019, was one of Rodgers’ key players during his first tenure at Parkhead.

Another notable player from Rodgers’ initial spell at Celtic was midfielder Tom Rogic. Rodgers, who managed the club from 2016 to early 2019 before moving to Leicester City, relied heavily on Rogic, who made 105 appearances under his guidance.

This placed Rogic among the top ten most-utilized players by Rodgers during that period, alongside stalwarts like Tierney, Callum McGregor, and James Forrest.

Rogic, who retired in 2023 after leaving Celtic in 2022, was a creative left-footed midfielder known for his ability to deliver goals and assists consistently.

His impact was a vital component of Celtic’s success under Rodgers. In recent years, Matt O’Riley stepped into a similar role, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists in the league last season before transferring to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.

Rodgers is now on the hunt for another left-footed playmaker to fill the void. According to The Boot Room, Celtic have expressed interest in Manchester City’s young midfielder James McAtee.

The report indicates that Celtic have made inquiries about the England U21 international, although it’s unclear whether they seek a permanent deal or a loan.

However, completing a deal for McAtee may prove challenging. Numerous clubs across Europe, including Brentford, Atalanta, Fiorentina, Bologna, Fulham, West Ham, and Nottingham Forest, are reportedly interested in signing him.

While Pep Guardiola values McAtee’s contributions to Manchester City’s squad, the manager is open to a move if the player decides it is in his best interest.

Celtic will need to navigate competition from these clubs and convince both Manchester City and McAtee to agree to the transfer, making this pursuit a complex one.

Unai Emery: Two Aston Villa deals are 'close'

Unai Emery has confirmed that Aston Villa is nearing the completion of a £21 million deal to sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.

The Netherlands international is set to join for an initial fee of £19 million, a move that will also facilitate Jaden Philogene’s transfer to Ipswich for £21 million.

Villa remains interested in further signings to bolster their squad for the second half of the season. However, Emery acknowledged that new additions would depend on player departures to ensure compliance with profit and sustainability regulations.

Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza is reportedly on Villa’s radar, though a potential transfer of Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce appears to be falling through.

“We are in the transfer window and we are trying to do some movements,” said Emery. “One of those movements is the possibility to sign Malen. In case Malen signs for us, it is close, we have to leave one player, which is Jaden [Philogene].

“We are alert and we want to always be ready to improve the squad with the players and, of course, sometimes some players want to leave us for different circumstances as well.

“We are moving forward with some circumstances like I am telling you from today until the last day of the window.

“If we are changing one player, Malen and Jaden, that’s the first. Maybe two or three players more, we can do another deal of some players leaving and some players joining us.”

Diego Carlos will miss Wednesday’s match against Everton due to injury. Ross Barkley (calf), John McGinn (hamstring), and Pau Torres (foot) are also sidelined.

Among the three, McGinn is the nearest to making a comeback but is expected to remain out for approximately another week.

David Sullivan has just made a rod for his own back with major new West Ham transfer leak

David Sullivan has just made a rod for his own back with major new West Ham transfer leak

David Sullivan has regained control of West Ham’s transfer dealings this January, and many fans are already noticing the shift.

Frustrated with how Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui spent £155m in the summer, Sullivan, the majority owner, has taken back full control of signings.

While it was always Sullivan and the board who had the final say on deals suggested by Steidten, Lopetegui, and David Moyes, Sullivan made it clear that he is now in charge once again, with input from Steidten and the manager.

This move has divided opinion among West Ham supporters, especially with some of the players the club is reportedly targeting.

While Sullivan’s return to the transfer scene invites potential criticism, it’s worth noting that he was responsible for securing one of the summer’s standout signings, Crysencio Summerville.

The Dutch winger has impressed fans with his exciting performances, and at just 22, he fits the profile of the type of player many expected West Ham to build around. Best of all, the Hammers managed to sign Summerville for a reasonable £26m.

Now, Sullivan will be judged on what he accomplishes in this window. The top priorities are bringing in a striker and a midfielder, with a potential need for a defender depending on the status of Jean-Clair Todibo’s abductor injury.

Over the past week, there’s been a noticeable increase in the number of strikers linked with the club, prompting some cynics to claim that Sullivan is resorting to a “scattergun approach.”

Ultimately, West Ham’s success this month will come down to who they manage to sign, not the noise surrounding it. Heading into January, the club’s owners made it clear that West Ham is nearing its PSR limit and would need to sell players in order to buy.

This has led to an increased focus on loan moves, with many reports indicating that West Ham is looking to strengthen without exceeding financial constraints.

“We are up to our FFP maximum,” the senior London Stadium contact told Hammers News.

“So unless we increase income or move players there is very little room to do much.

“But never say never.”

Several players, including Edson Alvarez, Vladimir Coufal, Guido Rodriguez, and others, have been linked with moves away from West Ham. Niclas Fullkrug was also rumored to be on his way out until a hamstring injury sidelined him for the next three months.

Against this backdrop, fans were surprised by transfer news that surfaced yesterday.

David Sullivan has found himself in a tough spot after a major West Ham transfer leak. Football correspondent Graeme Bailey revealed that West Ham had made a fresh £40m bid for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

However, Bailey later informed Hammers News that West Ham’s offer was rejected, as Villa is asking for between £65-70m to even consider selling the Colombian forward.

This asking price is £30m more than what West Ham could have secured Duran for in the summer before Tim Steidten opted to allocate funds for other signings, including Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme.

Interestingly, Bailey also mentioned that Duran himself would be open to a move, as he is eager to secure a first-choice role.

Since news of the Duran bid broke, Sullivan has confirmed the move to Claret and Hugh.

“We’ve tried, but PSG and a few foreign clubs have outbid us,” the site was told.

“We never mention to supporters failed bids as it frustrates them.”

EFL club considering Leeds United striker swoop amid manager praise – Confirmed

Leeds United in pole position to sign int'L powerhouse as approaches made - report

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is reportedly on Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace’s radar as part of a broader list of potential targets.

While Leeds boss Daniel Farke is primarily focused on preparations for Sunday’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday, he’s likely also keeping an eye on potential transfer activity.

Despite the club’s insistence that January will be a quiet month, there are still a few areas in the squad that may need addressing.

Journalist Alan Nixon shared on his Patreon that Blackburn Rovers are monitoring Bamford for a potential move. The 31-year-old striker, however, is sidelined for the rest of January due to a hamstring injury sustained against Blackburn on New Year’s Day.

Despite this setback, the playoff hopefuls are keen to strengthen their squad as they aim to cement their spot in the top six.

Bamford has had limited impact in the Championship this season, playing just 123 minutes without scoring or assisting. Last season, he netted eight goals, all in the latter half of the campaign.

When asked about the possibility of signing Bamford, Eustace remained tight-lipped but did confirm that the player is being monitored as a potential addition to the squad this month.

He said (via the Lancashire Telegraph):

“Patrick is a very good player, I played with him at Derby, a long time ago when he started out.

“He’s a consistent performer at this level, he plays for a huge club in Leeds. But there will be lots of names thrown towards me and I’ll just say they’re good players.

“You’d have to ask the club. He’s a player on a long list that we have looked at and we’ll have to see.”

Leeds United’s apparent interest in strikers this January could hint at the 49ers’ willingness to part ways with Patrick Bamford.

However, it’s unlikely that Daniel Farke sees it that way, especially with Joe Gelhardt heading out on loan this week. Leeds need greater consistency from their attacking options, and neither Joel Piroe nor Mateo Joseph has been fully delivering on that front.

While Piroe’s 10 goals and five assists are undeniably impressive, his style of play highlights the need for a true focal point up front—a classic number nine that Leeds might look to secure this month.

For Bamford, if a move does happen, it could be the fresh start he needs. His prospects of rediscovering his best form at Elland Road appear slim, making this a potentially ideal time for a change.
