Advanced talks: Arsenal chiefs working on move to sign “highly rated” player – David Ornstein

Arsenal consider signing 11-time title winner as Bukayo Saka replacement in January

Arsenal are currently engaged in negotiations to bring in a new player for Mikel Arteta, according to the dependable David Ornstein, with the club’s leadership making headway in talks with the prospective signing.

Despite facing an injury crisis in their attack, Arsenal haven’t made any signings this January, much to the chagrin of their supporters. They’ve been connected with numerous forwards this transfer window as they push to secure the Premier League title.

Matheus Cunha is one of the names most prominently mentioned as a potential addition to the north London squad before the transfer window closes, but Wolves are determined to retain their leading scorer as they fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

On another front, Arsenal have also been linked with Benjamin Sesko, who’s been in top form for RB Leipzig. However, similar to Wolves, Leipzig are reluctant to part with one of their stars mid-season, and a transfer for the Slovenian in the summer seems more practical despite Arsenal’s keen interest.

Nonetheless, Arteta has made it clear that the club will keep working to find a solution before their match against Wolves.

“My opinion is clear that we lost two very very important players, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. So we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the frontline, it’s clear,” Arteta said.

“It is clear that in the period that we lost them, ideally we need some help. We were short already and now we are even shorter. The team still copes with that.”

Arsenal in advanced talks with “highly rated” talent

According to the well-regarded David Ornstein, Arsenal are in talks to sign Rosenborg’s young midfielder Sverre Nypan. This teenage prodigy has attracted attention from several elite clubs recently, but it’s Arsenal who appear to be making the most significant moves to secure his signature.

“They’re working on a deal to sign Sverre Nypan, a really highly rated Norwegian midfielder, 18 years old, from Rosenborg. They’re advancing in talks with his representatives and club to club, nothing has been agreed. There’s no decision made on his future. Others are interested in him, such as Girona in Spain, not Manchester City”, he explained.

As Ornstein reports, via GiveMeSport, although “no decision has been made” on Nypan’s future, Arsenal are “advancing” in negotiations with his representatives.

At just 18, Nypan has been hailed as a player with ‘elite’ potential by football analyst Ben Mattinson on X, having recorded eight goals and seven assists in his last season in the Norwegian league.

Given that the Eliteserien season spans from April to December, a move during the current winter transfer window seems more probable than waiting until summer, suggesting Arsenal might soon introduce a new talent to their north London squad.

Tottenham reach Ange Postecoglou sack decision after embarrassing Leicester loss

Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, has been given a vote of confidence by the club’s board, despite a run of dismal performances.

The humiliating 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City on Sunday marked Tottenham’s eighth loss in their last ten Premier League matches, leading many to speculate that the Australian’s time at the club might be coming to an end.

Speculation has been rife about Postecoglou’s future since his move from Celtic, but it appears the Tottenham board isn’t prepared to make a change just yet.

According to insiders like football.london, chairman Daniel Levy still has faith in Postecoglou, believing he’s the right fit for the role despite the doubts over his ability to reverse the team’s fortunes.

Additionally, it’s understood that the Tottenham hierarchy acknowledges the impact of injuries on the team’s performance and plans to bolster the squad with new signings before the January transfer window shuts, aiming to stabilize the situation.

With more than two years remaining on his contract, Postecoglou is keeping his focus on the job at hand, even as he acknowledges the inherent instability of managerial positions.

“Who knows? ” he said. “When you are the manager of a football club you can be very vulnerable and isolated. I don’t feel that. I feel like this group of players are giving everything for the club. I have a group of staff that is really committed. I focus on that.

“My role within that is to try and support these players. When the guys who are coming back come back it is going to give everybody a lift.

“There is a fantastic opportunity this season to make an impact and I know we can. But in terms of your question, is there anything I can say about that that is going to change anything that I need to do tomorrow morning? Nothing.”

Former England goalkeeper Rob Green delivered a scathing assessment of Postecoglou’s performance during the current turmoil. On BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “The adaptability of Ange has been held up in the spotlight, and it is not there.

“[His stance is] ‘I’m going to play my way’ and it has eaten away at the players. I don’t think he has got the ability to change because he is so hell-bent in his ways.”

Exclusive: Brighton open £20m talks to sign teenage sensation

Brighton now make contact over signing Cummings - report

Brighton have initiated discussions for a £20million transfer to bring 1. FC Nürnberg’s young striker Stefanos Tzimas to the club, according to Football Insider sources.

The 19-year-old has made a significant impact while on loan from PAOK in Greece, playing in the 2.Bundesliga.

Despite interest from various European clubs, Brighton are now actively negotiating to secure Tzimas’s signature.

This season, Tzimas has scored nine goals and provided two assists in 16 matches across all competitions. He has been a regular starter, featuring in 12 of those games for Nurnberg, who are positioned in the middle of the 2.Bundesliga standings.

The Greek striker, who began the 2024-25 season off the bench, has since started the last 11 league games. His progress is being guided by former German football icon Miroslav Klose, who currently manages Nurnberg.

Nurnberg has the opportunity to buy Tzimas permanently from PAOK for a predetermined amount.

Last season, Tzimas helped PAOK win the Greek Super League and holds the record as the club’s youngest goalscorer, having scored in a victory against Ionikos shortly after his 17th birthday.

Brighton’s forward options include Danny Welbeck, Evan Ferguson, Joao Pedro, and Georginio Rutter.

Following a 3-1 victory against Manchester United on January 19th, Brighton are placed ninth in the Premier League under manager Fabian Hurzeler.

Fabian Hurzeler makes Mats Wieffer fitness admission with ‘pressure on medical department’

Brighton’s midfielder Mats Wieffer is among eight players expected to be absent for the upcoming Premier League match against Everton at the Amex Stadium this Saturday.

Wieffer, who transferred from Feyenoord to Brighton for £25 million last summer, is currently sidelined with a thigh injury he picked up in the 1-1 draw against West Ham on December 21.

The Dutch international has not played in the last five games, having missed a total of eight matches this season, and has only started in four Premier League games to date.

Although Wieffer was a starter in Brighton’s 3-0 victory over Everton on the first matchday, manager Fabian Hurzeler has indicated that the midfielder will not recover in time for the rematch this weekend.

“Quite well,” said the German head coach to Sussex World, when asked how his midfielder was progressing. “So hopefully he will be back in one to two weeks, without making too much pressure on my medical department.”

The absence of Mats Wieffer is a significant setback for Fabian Hurzeler as the versatile 24-year-old can also fill in at centre back, a position where Brighton are currently struggling due to injuries to Lewis Dunk (muscular) and Igor Julio (hamstring).

With limited options, Adam Webster, who has been plagued by injuries over the last two seasons, and Jan Paul van Hecke are the only senior centre backs available for the Everton match.

Brighton have been rumored to be in talks for a £12 million transfer of Derby County’s Eiran Cashin, and they also missed out on Brazilian defender Vitor Reis, who signed with Manchester City from Palmeiras for £30 million earlier this week.

“There are no priorities for me,” Hurzeler told Sussex World when asked if they are actively seeking to sign a defender in the remaining days of the transfer window.

“For me, the most important thing is that the work I can influence, and the work I can influence the players I have available, and try to improve them the best way we can.

“Try to prepare them for the following match, that’s my job. That’s my priority, and the other things we are discussing internally, we always try and that’s the most important thing to do the best thing. “What helps the club to be more successful and if it’s more successful to bring a new player in then we might do it.

“If not then we don’t do it, but I’m a coach and honestly I really can only influence the things on the pitch and beside the pitch, with the players who are there, and that’s my job where I try to focus on.”

Arsenal make ‘promising offer' to beat Man Utd in the race to sign £10m exciting star - report

According to GiveMeSport, Arsenal have put forward a ‘promising offer’ to secure the signature of Rosenborg’s promising talent, Sverre Halseth Nypan.

Norway has been a hotbed for emerging football stars, including the likes of Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, and Alexander Sorloth. Nypan, an 18-year-old with 15 goal contributions in the Eliteserien last season, has caught the eye of numerous top European clubs.

Initially, Manchester United were seen as the frontrunners, given that playing for them was reportedly Nypan’s dream. However, United are currently focusing on more seasoned players for immediate squad enhancement, which has opened the door for Arsenal to make their move.

Arsenal have not only entered the bidding but have also involved Odegaard, who has been talking to Nypan to sway him towards the Emirates. The ‘promising offer’ from Arsenal seems to have piqued Nypan’s interest in a move to north London. Rosenborg is prepared to part ways with their star for around £10m, considering his contract has less than 18 months remaining.

Nypan is versatile, adept in both an attacking midfield role and as a box-to-box player. Arsenal’s current creative midfield options are limited, with Odegaard being the main man and Fabio Vieira failing to make a significant impact. While Ethan Nwaneri shows promise, he’s not yet ready for consistent Premier League action, suggesting that Nypan could be a strategic long-term signing for Arsenal.

It will be intriguing to see if Arsenal can outmaneuver Manchester United, the record Premier League champions, to secure Nypan’s services before the transfer window shuts.

Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta ‘trying to get marquee star’ as pre-contract agreed

January has been filled with transfer gossip around Arsenal, but they haven’t made any signings yet.

As contenders for the Premier League title, Arsenal aim to close the gap with Liverpool, and new players could significantly boost their campaign, especially with their growing list of injuries. Mikel Arteta has openly expressed his intent to recruit new talent in the coming week or so.

The clock is running down for Arsenal, particularly as they’re in dire need of a new forward. The absence of a prolific goal scorer has been a noticeable weakness this season, affecting their performance in critical matches.

However, finding and signing top players in the middle of the season is no easy task, and Arsenal are still searching for the right fit, as per the Mirror. Here’s what’s happening at the Emirates:

Kieran Tierney, whose contract with Arsenal is coming to an end, has signed a pre-contract agreement to return to Celtic. Arsenal had made it clear that they wouldn’t extend his contract, which opened the door for him to negotiate as a free agent. Despite interest from various clubs, both abroad and within the Premier League, Tierney decided to go back to Celtic, as reported by the Telegraph.

This deal might mean Tierney has to bide his time before moving, even though there was talk of a potential January transfer.

Last season, Tierney was sent on loan to Real Sociedad where he played regularly, but now he’s back with Arsenal, ready to contribute.
