Bargain £12m deal sealed for top West Ham striker target as David Sullivan faces race against time
West Ham’s majority owner, David Sullivan, has resumed control of transfer decisions and now faces a race against time to secure a key target.
The club had already planned to sign a new forward during the January transfer window, but recent developments have made this an urgent priority. Sullivan has taken back authority over transfers from Tim Steidten and manager Julen Lopetegui, following dissatisfaction with how £155 million was spent in the summer.
Both Steidten and Lopetegui are reportedly on thin ice as West Ham struggles under the manager’s leadership. The urgency to bolster the attack has intensified following Michail Antonio’s car accident and Jarrod Bowen’s foot injury, leaving the Hammers in desperate need of reinforcements up front.
The club has identified the need for a “top-level striker,” with Danny Ings failing to meet expectations. Ings is set to depart when his contract expires at the end of the season, underscoring the importance of securing a new forward this winter.
Bargain £12m deal sealed for top West Ham striker target
West Ham will likely need to secure at least two new forwards across the next two transfer windows.
However, the club’s owners have indicated that they are operating at their PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules) limit. As a result, loan deals with options or obligations to buy may be the most viable solution. Securing one forward in January should suffice to see the Hammers through the remainder of the season.
There is growing uncertainty surrounding Niclas Füllkrug’s future, as reports suggest he is unsettled in England and wants to leave West Ham, according to a senior board source.
The club recently confirmed their interest in Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath to Hammers News. However, West Ham is skeptical about ‘Boro’s willingness to sell, given their ongoing push for promotion.
Meanwhile, rumors have linked the Hammers with Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, but Hammers News provided an exclusive update that casts doubt on the likelihood of a move.
In the midst of these developments, West Ham has reportedly sealed a bargain £12 million deal for a confirmed striker target, as David Sullivan works against the clock to address the club’s pressing needs.
David Sullivan faces race against time for Latte Lath
West Ham recently confirmed their interest in Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath to Hammers News. However, the club believed that Middlesbrough, focused on their promotion push, would be unwilling to sell.
Journalist Graeme Bailey, who has strong ties to Middlesbrough, offered a different perspective. He suggested that the club might consider parting with Lath if the right offer came along. It now appears that such an offer has been made—though not by West Ham.
In an exclusive report on his Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon revealed that Leicester City, West Ham’s Premier League rivals, had a £12 million bid for Latte Lath accepted by Middlesbrough. Nixon reiterated West Ham’s interest but noted that Leicester now has the first opportunity to negotiate with the Ivory Coast forward, who has reportedly been seeking a move for months.
Leicester is reportedly close to finalizing the deal, but nothing has been signed yet, leaving West Ham with a slim chance to intervene. Previously, Bailey told Hammers News he believed Middlesbrough would sell Lath for £25 million and mentioned that an influential agent close to West Ham owner David Sullivan was advocating for Lath’s move to East London.
“Will Salthouse is trying to do Lath – every player has his price, ‘Boro would take £25m for him – they have Conway, who is better really but if they did it early enough they could do it,” Bailey said.

Unai Emery: Two Aston Villa deals are ‘close’
Unai Emery has confirmed that Aston Villa is nearing the completion of a £21 million deal to sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.
The Netherlands international is set to join for an initial fee of £19 million, a move that will also facilitate Jaden Philogene’s transfer to Ipswich for £21 million.
Villa remains interested in further signings to bolster their squad for the second half of the season. However, Emery acknowledged that new additions would depend on player departures to ensure compliance with profit and sustainability regulations.
Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza is reportedly on Villa’s radar, though a potential transfer of Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce appears to be falling through.
“We are in the transfer window and we are trying to do some movements,” said Emery. “One of those movements is the possibility to sign Malen. In case Malen signs for us, it is close, we have to leave one player, which is Jaden [Philogene].
“We are alert and we want to always be ready to improve the squad with the players and, of course, sometimes some players want to leave us for different circumstances as well.
“We are moving forward with some circumstances like I am telling you from today until the last day of the window.
“If we are changing one player, Malen and Jaden, that’s the first. Maybe two or three players more, we can do another deal of some players leaving and some players joining us.”
Diego Carlos will miss Wednesday’s match against Everton due to injury. Ross Barkley (calf), John McGinn (hamstring), and Pau Torres (foot) are also sidelined.
Among the three, McGinn is the nearest to making a comeback but is expected to remain out for approximately another week.

David Sullivan has just made a rod for his own back with major new West Ham transfer leak
David Sullivan has regained control of West Ham’s transfer dealings this January, and many fans are already noticing the shift.
Frustrated with how Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui spent £155m in the summer, Sullivan, the majority owner, has taken back full control of signings.
While it was always Sullivan and the board who had the final say on deals suggested by Steidten, Lopetegui, and David Moyes, Sullivan made it clear that he is now in charge once again, with input from Steidten and the manager.
This move has divided opinion among West Ham supporters, especially with some of the players the club is reportedly targeting.
While Sullivan’s return to the transfer scene invites potential criticism, it’s worth noting that he was responsible for securing one of the summer’s standout signings, Crysencio Summerville.
The Dutch winger has impressed fans with his exciting performances, and at just 22, he fits the profile of the type of player many expected West Ham to build around. Best of all, the Hammers managed to sign Summerville for a reasonable £26m.
Now, Sullivan will be judged on what he accomplishes in this window. The top priorities are bringing in a striker and a midfielder, with a potential need for a defender depending on the status of Jean-Clair Todibo’s abductor injury.
Over the past week, there’s been a noticeable increase in the number of strikers linked with the club, prompting some cynics to claim that Sullivan is resorting to a “scattergun approach.”
Ultimately, West Ham’s success this month will come down to who they manage to sign, not the noise surrounding it. Heading into January, the club’s owners made it clear that West Ham is nearing its PSR limit and would need to sell players in order to buy.
This has led to an increased focus on loan moves, with many reports indicating that West Ham is looking to strengthen without exceeding financial constraints.
“We are up to our FFP maximum,” the senior London Stadium contact told Hammers News.
“So unless we increase income or move players there is very little room to do much.
“But never say never.”
Several players, including Edson Alvarez, Vladimir Coufal, Guido Rodriguez, and others, have been linked with moves away from West Ham. Niclas Fullkrug was also rumored to be on his way out until a hamstring injury sidelined him for the next three months.
Against this backdrop, fans were surprised by transfer news that surfaced yesterday.
David Sullivan has found himself in a tough spot after a major West Ham transfer leak. Football correspondent Graeme Bailey revealed that West Ham had made a fresh £40m bid for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.
However, Bailey later informed Hammers News that West Ham’s offer was rejected, as Villa is asking for between £65-70m to even consider selling the Colombian forward.
This asking price is £30m more than what West Ham could have secured Duran for in the summer before Tim Steidten opted to allocate funds for other signings, including Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme.
Interestingly, Bailey also mentioned that Duran himself would be open to a move, as he is eager to secure a first-choice role.
Since news of the Duran bid broke, Sullivan has confirmed the move to Claret and Hugh.
“We’ve tried, but PSG and a few foreign clubs have outbid us,” the site was told.
“We never mention to supporters failed bids as it frustrates them.”

Havertz’s wife shares threats after Arsenal loss
Kai Havertz’s wife, Sophia, revealed the abusive messages she received on social media following Arsenal’s loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday.
On Monday, she posted two updates on her Instagram story, including one in which someone threatened to “slaughter” her unborn baby.
Arsenal were eliminated from the cup after losing to United in a penalty shootout. Havertz, the German striker, missed a chance to secure the win at the Emirates Stadium when he fired over from a close range and later had his penalty saved during the shootout.
Sophia Havertz voiced her outrage over the vile abuse she faced after the match.
“For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me… I hope you are ashamed of yourself,” she posted.
In response to the threat to her baby, she posted: “I’m not sure what to even say but please guys be more respectful. We are better than this…”
Football authorities and law enforcement have been working to address online abuse directed at players.
Last year, the Football Association of England announced it was allocating approximately £25,000 ($32,000) to support police efforts in tackling such incidents during the European Championship.
During the 2021 Euros, England players Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho faced racial abuse on social media after missing penalties in a shootout loss to Italy in the final.
FIFA, the global governing body, has implemented a Social Media Protection Service (SMPS) to safeguard players, teams, and officials from online harassment by ensuring their social media accounts remain free from hate.
According to SMPS, during the 2023 Women’s World Cup, 20% of the players were targeted with discriminatory, abusive, or threatening messages, with about half of these being anti-gay, sexual, or sexist in nature.
