Liverpool are reportedly preparing a £65 million bid for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as they aim to make a significant acquisition in the January transfer window.
The Reds have enjoyed an exceptional start to the season under Arne Slot, sitting atop the Premier League table after 18 matches.
Their latest triumph, a dominant 5-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday, extended their lead to eight points over second-placed Nottingham Forest, with a game in hand.
Slot, who took over at Anfield after leaving Feyenoord in the summer, couldn’t have hoped for a better debut season.
Liverpool also lead their Champions League group with two games remaining, fueling speculation that they could challenge for multiple trophies this season.
However, the squad’s depth could become a concern as they compete on multiple fronts. Their only major summer signing was Italy winger Federico Chiesa, with goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili acquired but loaned back to Valencia. To bolster their defense, Slot has identified Crystal Palace’s Guehi as a prime target.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool have submitted a £65 million bid for the England international. Despite interest from several clubs, Liverpool are reportedly determined to secure one of the brightest defensive prospects in English football.
The Reds view Guehi’s potential signing as a way to strengthen their backline by adding youth, quality, and increased competition for existing defenders.
Crystal Palace, however, are unlikely to let Guehi go cheaply, with the report suggesting the £65 million bid may not meet their valuation.
Meanwhile, The Sun recently reported that Liverpool is Guehi’s preferred destination as he considers his future.
Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has also expressed confidence in the Reds’ ability to “surprise” everyone and claim the Premier League title.
