Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered early discussions with Brentford and may be poised to disrupt Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo, who is said to be ‘intrigued’ by the prospect.
According to Sky Sports, Spurs’ chances of landing the Cameroonian forward have significantly improved following the appointment of Thomas Frank — Mbeumo’s former manager at Brentford, under whom he thrived last season.
While Mbeumo, 25, had shown a preference for a move to Manchester United and turned down interest from Champions League sides Newcastle United and Arsenal, the Red Devils have struggled to reach an agreement with Brentford. The forward is reportedly valued at around £70 million.
United’s delay in sealing the deal has opened the door for Tottenham, who have since engaged Brentford in talks. There’s growing optimism at Spurs over the possibility of reuniting Mbeumo with Frank.
“Tottenham have held initial discussions with Brentford about a deal for Bryan Mbeumo. Mbeumo is understood to be more intrigued by a move to Tottenham now that Thomas Frank has become their head coach. Spurs have received encouragement about a potential deal. Man United had a £55m bid rejected for Mbeumo before Spurs started talks to hire Frank.”

Tottenham are expected to target a new forward this summer and have also been keeping tabs on Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.
However, Thomas Frank’s familiarity with Bryan Mbeumo gives Spurs a potential edge — the Danish coach has closely guided the Cameroonian’s rise since signing him for Brentford back in 2019.
Mbeumo, who has been described as “insane” for his performances, emerged as Frank’s key attacking figure last season, netting an impressive 20 Premier League goals.
He showcased his adaptability by playing both on the right wing — his natural position — and centrally alongside Yoane Wissa in a lethal pairing.
Manchester United are believed to have tabled a £200,000-a-week offer to lure Mbeumo, but their failure to secure Champions League football after losing the Europa League final to Spurs could work against them.
In contrast, Frank’s Tottenham side will be playing in Europe’s top competition next season — a major draw for the in-demand forward.
