Just when it seemed like Masters week had delivered all its surprises, 38-year-old Billy Horschel grabbed attention in an unexpected and endearing moment at the RBC Heritage.
No, it wasn’t anything outrageous like grabbing a fan’s phone or relieving himself on the course — rather, it was a painful yet amusing encounter between the PGA Tour pro and a spectator.
The incident unfolded on the par-4 10th hole Thursday, when Horschel’s tee shot veered off course and struck a female spectator in the leg.
The ball ricocheted off her leg and rolled back toward the fairway, leaving her visibly hurt and her leg swollen.
Surprisingly, Horschel had no idea what had happened until he approached his ball in the rough and was told about the accident.
The news quickly moved Horschel to act — he offered an apology and, in a gesture that highlighted his good-natured charm, signed the injured fan’s leg.
The moment turned a painful mishap into a light-hearted memory, sparking laughter from the crowd and a smile from the fan.
Interestingly, Horschel wasn’t the first PGA Tour pro to sign a fan’s skin. That title arguably goes to John Daly.
Known for his bold personality, Daly made a similar splash back in 2019 during the Masters.
While Tiger Woods was busy claiming his fifth green jacket, Daly was out in a Hooters parking lot near Augusta, leaving his own mark — literally — by autographing a fan’s bare hip.
In true Daly fashion, he shared the moment on Instagram, proudly embracing his maverick persona.
“All I can say is ….I love my life!”
