Tottenham Hotspur continues to struggle in the league as key players fail to deliver, with Son Heung-min and James Maddison facing increasing criticism.

Son, in particular, has been under fire, with some fans even calling for his contract to be terminated following a decline in performances.

Maddison has also been scrutinized for his inconsistency, and both have been frequently left out of Ange Postecoglou’s recent Premier League lineups.

While Postecoglou insists squad rotation is necessary to prioritize the Europa League, Tottenham’s next European match isn’t until April 10 against Eintracht Frankfurt, raising questions about their prolonged absence from the starting XI.

Son’s struggles have been especially notable after his contract extension was triggered until 2026. Despite the duo combining for 30 goal contributions in the Premier League this season, football analyst Ian Darke told Tottenham News that the “harsh truth” is they have simply underperformed, leading to their recent exclusions.

“I think Postecoglou’s decisions here are a reflection of the poor seasons Son and Maddison have had,” Darke said.

“We’re still waiting for Maddison to flourish and be the player we thought he could be for Tottenham. That’s the harsh truth – we only get glimpses.

“As for Son, he hasn’t delivered the way he used to deliver. When they’re getting left out here and there, they can’t complain.”

Daniel Levy is closely monitoring the remainder of Tottenham’s difficult season, hoping for a dramatic turnaround that could see the club secure its first trophy in 17 years.

If Ange Postecoglou can guide Spurs to Europa League glory, he would not only break the club’s long-standing silverware drought but also fulfill his promise of delivering a trophy in his second season.

While such success would go a long way in justifying Postecoglou’s tenure, it may not be enough to win over all sections of the fanbase.

With the season hanging in the balance, Son Heung-min and James Maddison will be pivotal in Spurs’ push for silverware and must step up for both their manager and supporters.
