Arsenal make ‘promising offer’ to beat Man Utd in the race to sign £10m exciting star – report
According to GiveMeSport, Arsenal have put forward a ‘promising offer’ to secure the signature of Rosenborg’s promising talent, Sverre Halseth Nypan.
Norway has been a hotbed for emerging football stars, including the likes of Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, and Alexander Sorloth. Nypan, an 18-year-old with 15 goal contributions in the Eliteserien last season, has caught the eye of numerous top European clubs.
Initially, Manchester United were seen as the frontrunners, given that playing for them was reportedly Nypan’s dream. However, United are currently focusing on more seasoned players for immediate squad enhancement, which has opened the door for Arsenal to make their move.
Arsenal have not only entered the bidding but have also involved Odegaard, who has been talking to Nypan to sway him towards the Emirates. The ‘promising offer’ from Arsenal seems to have piqued Nypan’s interest in a move to north London. Rosenborg is prepared to part ways with their star for around £10m, considering his contract has less than 18 months remaining.
Nypan is versatile, adept in both an attacking midfield role and as a box-to-box player. Arsenal’s current creative midfield options are limited, with Odegaard being the main man and Fabio Vieira failing to make a significant impact. While Ethan Nwaneri shows promise, he’s not yet ready for consistent Premier League action, suggesting that Nypan could be a strategic long-term signing for Arsenal.
It will be intriguing to see if Arsenal can outmaneuver Manchester United, the record Premier League champions, to secure Nypan’s services before the transfer window shuts.
Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta ‘trying to get marquee star’ as pre-contract agreed
January has been filled with transfer gossip around Arsenal, but they haven’t made any signings yet.
As contenders for the Premier League title, Arsenal aim to close the gap with Liverpool, and new players could significantly boost their campaign, especially with their growing list of injuries. Mikel Arteta has openly expressed his intent to recruit new talent in the coming week or so.
The clock is running down for Arsenal, particularly as they’re in dire need of a new forward. The absence of a prolific goal scorer has been a noticeable weakness this season, affecting their performance in critical matches.
However, finding and signing top players in the middle of the season is no easy task, and Arsenal are still searching for the right fit, as per the Mirror. Here’s what’s happening at the Emirates:
Kieran Tierney, whose contract with Arsenal is coming to an end, has signed a pre-contract agreement to return to Celtic. Arsenal had made it clear that they wouldn’t extend his contract, which opened the door for him to negotiate as a free agent. Despite interest from various clubs, both abroad and within the Premier League, Tierney decided to go back to Celtic, as reported by the Telegraph.
This deal might mean Tierney has to bide his time before moving, even though there was talk of a potential January transfer.
Last season, Tierney was sent on loan to Real Sociedad where he played regularly, but now he’s back with Arsenal, ready to contribute.

Exclusive: Brighton open £20m talks to sign teenage sensation
Brighton have initiated discussions for a £20million transfer to bring 1. FC Nürnberg’s young striker Stefanos Tzimas to the club, according to Football Insider sources.
The 19-year-old has made a significant impact while on loan from PAOK in Greece, playing in the 2.Bundesliga.
Despite interest from various European clubs, Brighton are now actively negotiating to secure Tzimas’s signature.
This season, Tzimas has scored nine goals and provided two assists in 16 matches across all competitions. He has been a regular starter, featuring in 12 of those games for Nurnberg, who are positioned in the middle of the 2.Bundesliga standings.
The Greek striker, who began the 2024-25 season off the bench, has since started the last 11 league games. His progress is being guided by former German football icon Miroslav Klose, who currently manages Nurnberg.
Nurnberg has the opportunity to buy Tzimas permanently from PAOK for a predetermined amount.
Last season, Tzimas helped PAOK win the Greek Super League and holds the record as the club’s youngest goalscorer, having scored in a victory against Ionikos shortly after his 17th birthday.
Brighton’s forward options include Danny Welbeck, Evan Ferguson, Joao Pedro, and Georginio Rutter.
Following a 3-1 victory against Manchester United on January 19th, Brighton are placed ninth in the Premier League under manager Fabian Hurzeler.
Fabian Hurzeler makes Mats Wieffer fitness admission with ‘pressure on medical department’
Brighton’s midfielder Mats Wieffer is among eight players expected to be absent for the upcoming Premier League match against Everton at the Amex Stadium this Saturday.
Wieffer, who transferred from Feyenoord to Brighton for £25 million last summer, is currently sidelined with a thigh injury he picked up in the 1-1 draw against West Ham on December 21.
The Dutch international has not played in the last five games, having missed a total of eight matches this season, and has only started in four Premier League games to date.
Although Wieffer was a starter in Brighton’s 3-0 victory over Everton on the first matchday, manager Fabian Hurzeler has indicated that the midfielder will not recover in time for the rematch this weekend.
“Quite well,” said the German head coach to Sussex World, when asked how his midfielder was progressing. “So hopefully he will be back in one to two weeks, without making too much pressure on my medical department.”
The absence of Mats Wieffer is a significant setback for Fabian Hurzeler as the versatile 24-year-old can also fill in at centre back, a position where Brighton are currently struggling due to injuries to Lewis Dunk (muscular) and Igor Julio (hamstring).
With limited options, Adam Webster, who has been plagued by injuries over the last two seasons, and Jan Paul van Hecke are the only senior centre backs available for the Everton match.
Brighton have been rumored to be in talks for a £12 million transfer of Derby County’s Eiran Cashin, and they also missed out on Brazilian defender Vitor Reis, who signed with Manchester City from Palmeiras for £30 million earlier this week.
“There are no priorities for me,” Hurzeler told Sussex World when asked if they are actively seeking to sign a defender in the remaining days of the transfer window.
“For me, the most important thing is that the work I can influence, and the work I can influence the players I have available, and try to improve them the best way we can.
“Try to prepare them for the following match, that’s my job. That’s my priority, and the other things we are discussing internally, we always try and that’s the most important thing to do the best thing. “What helps the club to be more successful and if it’s more successful to bring a new player in then we might do it.
“If not then we don’t do it, but I’m a coach and honestly I really can only influence the things on the pitch and beside the pitch, with the players who are there, and that’s my job where I try to focus on.”

Arsenal informed £70m player wants to join them instead of Tottenham this month
Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United have all expressed interest in acquiring Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Cunha has been a standout performer for Wolves this season, scoring 10 goals in the Premier League, significantly aiding the team in avoiding the relegation zone.
According to TBR Football, negotiations for a new contract with Wolves have hit a snag, sparking interest from several clubs. However, only one can secure his signature, and it seems Cunha has a favored destination.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham have been prominently linked with the Brazilian, especially Arsenal, who are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements following serious injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, with the latter out for the season.
With just 10 days left in the transfer window, GiveMeSport reports that Cunha is also on the radar of clubs like Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Nottingham Forest. Nonetheless, it’s Arsenal that Cunha reportedly prefers, with the news that he wants to join Mikel Arteta’s squad.
However, Wolves are keen on retaining their star player, understanding the impact his departure could have on their fight against relegation.
Football Transfers states that Wolves are seeking over £70 million for Cunha, a hefty sum compared to Arsenal’s £45 million ceiling for this transfer window.
It remains uncertain whether Wolves and Arsenal can strike a deal that would allow Cunha to move to the Emirates Stadium in the final stretch of the transfer period.
Arsenal have struck gold with “superb” ace who’s worth far more than Cunha
With the transfer window set to close in less than two weeks, Arsenal have yet to make any new signings. Despite facing injuries, suspensions, and inconsistent performances, Mikel Arteta’s team holds a commendable second place in the Premier League and an impressive third in the Champions League standings.
The absence of key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus due to injuries has highlighted the need for fresh talent. While fans might be growing anxious about the lack of activity, numerous players have been linked with Arsenal recently, indicating some groundwork is being laid.
One of the standout names linked heavily this month is Wolverhampton’s Matheus Cunha. His acquisition would be thrilling, though his value pales in comparison to one of Arsenal’s existing stars.
Before diving into who that star might be, let’s consider some of the attacking options Arsenal have been associated with. Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao has been a long-term target, with recent reports reaffirming Arsenal’s interest. Last season, Williams was outstanding, contributing eight goals and 19 assists in 37 games, although his form has slightly dipped this year with three goals and five assists in 28 games.
Another name frequently mentioned is Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo, reportedly available for £50 million. This season, Mbuemo has been in top form, amassing 13 goals and four assists in 26 appearances. His signing would not only boost Arsenal’s scoring options but also provide much-needed competition and rest for Saka.
However, Matheus Cunha stands out as possibly the most talked-about prospect this window, with a potential price tag of up to £80 million. Wolves are understandably hesitant to let go of their star performer mid-season, especially with his record of ten goals and four assists in just 22 games.
Yet, even with such a high transfer fee, Cunha would still be valued at millions less than one of his potential teammates at Arsenal.

Arsenal ‘closing in’ on £60m ‘top target’ amid ‘green light’ as Arteta makes ‘big push’ for signing ‘now’
Arsenal are reportedly nearing a deal for their top target, Benjamin Sesko, as they are now prepared to invest heavily in a striker following a strong push from Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners had identified Sesko as their primary target during the summer transfer window in their search for a new striker. However, the deal did not materialize as the 21-year-old chose to stay with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig for another year.
Sesko, a standout young forward in Europe, was not replaced by Arsenal in the summer, which has proven to be a potential misstep. The team has struggled with scoring this season, relying heavily on Bukayo Saka and set pieces.
Initially, it was thought that Arsenal would wait until the summer to sign a new striker, but Gabriel Jesus’ injury might prompt an earlier move, leaving Mikel Arteta with only Kai Havertz as a center-forward option.
While Arsenal is linked with several alternatives, Sesko remains their preferred choice. He has scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 26 appearances for RB Leipzig this season.
A report on Wednesday indicated that Arsenal has made a new inquiry to RB Leipzig regarding Sesko. According to John Cross from The Mirror, Arteta is making a significant effort to secure Sesko, and the club is closing in on the striker.
The £60 million striker reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement with RB Leipzig, and Arsenal, having maintained contact, is believed to be the frontrunner to sign him.
It is also noted that they are ‘willing to spend big on a striker transfer now’ after they were given a ‘green light’ for ‘top target’ Sesko, though it needs to be the right player.
‘Arsenal are willing to do a big deal in January – but only if they can land a primary target.
‘They have been looking at top striker target, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who will be allowed to move in the summer with Arsenal in pole position. The Gunners will see if they can tempt RB Leipzig into a deal now to boost the rest of their campaign with a striker.
‘Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has spelt out that the club are in the market and there has been dialogue with the hierarchy, including Josh Kroenke to bolster the squad. Sesko, 21, has a gentleman’s agreement of around £60m which would allow him to leave in the summer and any club would have to make an offer to tempt them to do business now.
‘Arsenal have remained in touch, are on the case and are believed to be front-runners despite growing interest in the striker. It still remains odds against RB Leipzig selling but a bigger offer may tempt them and there is still a feeling that Arsenal are ready to do business.
‘But they are reluctant to compromise and rush into a deal now and then end up with a player who will not ultimately push their squad to the next level.’
